Struggling to Get on Your Feet

Today, I am not reviewing anything. I am writing because I feel like it. I just wanted to talk about the struggle of finding your groove in life, the path, the way to being successful and independent, and right now I am not there. I want to be but I am not.

Sometimes I feel disappointed in myself. I finished school and I am at home. Sure I work part time, I am doing an internship and actively job hunting, but at times I feel so discouraged. I am in a rut right now.

I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way but anyways, If anyone has any advice or ways they handle times when you feel discouraged feel free to comment!

3 Hair Products for Dry Scalp

It’s been about two months since my last post and that is a sign that I am not exactly making progress with my new year’s resolutions.

So far I have managed to get an internship in my field of study which is great only I wish I was not working for free. It is so painful lol. I’ve called up the driving school but I have not actually set up any classes so there is no progress there. And besides my failure at blogging, I am also failing at dropping the 10 to 15 lbs I said I wanted to lose.

I just can’t seem to deny my sweet tooth and late night munchies… It is so hard! But on the bright side I still have a lot of time to make things happen so hopefully it works out.

So, recently I purchased a three hair products. I have a problem with dry scalp, and I seem to find a solution for it for like a month or two and then the problem just comes back. Here is a quick review of each product:

1. Shea Moisture – African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo

IMG_0170

One of my least favorite shampoos. Did not help the scalp much, although I have only used it twice. Does not smell good and does not lather well. It is cruelty free, sulfate free, organic, and a bunch of other stuff. The spray to this shampoo though, helps relieve itching.

2. Neutrogena Daily Control

IMG_0171

My absolute favorite shampoo. No flakes, no itching, smells good. I have been using this on and off for a couple of years and the only drawback to it is that after a month or two it isn’t as effective so I have to switch up shampoos. I highly recommend this!

3. Eden Body Works Natural Hair Oil – Peppermint Tea Tree

IMG_0166

I found this at Walmart (I love that store). So I thought this would be like a really light oil and I just sprayed a small amount onto my scalp and it made my hair look super oily. It smells like peppermint of course and it helps stop the flakes but this is something I would use when I am not going anywhere and just let it soak in before washing.

That’s all for now. If you were looking for something for your dry scalp or if you were planning on buying any of these products I hope I helped!

My Favorite Liquid Liner: Milani Eyetech

When it comes to liquid eyeliner I need lots of practice using the brush or the little wand felt tip applicator thing that some of the liquid eyeliners come with. So when I tried the Milani Eyetech Liquid Eyeliner, which I bought at CVS for about $8, I pretty much stuck with it. This eyeliner is so easy to use and it is perfect for someone who is just starting out with a liquid liner. It’s small size makes it easier to make an even line and it lasts too. I have two in black and one in brown and they dried out after like a month and a half or so, which is reasonable to me. So if you are looking for a decent liquid liner and you aren’t exactly good with liquid liner give this a try.

Review! Ruby Kisses HD Set n’ Forget Setting Powder

I am not a big fan of powder. I have only had one powder compact and it made my face look ashy so I pretty much try to stay away from buying powders. But about a month and a half ago I decided to take a chance on it again and on a trip to the beauty supply I saw the Ruby Kisses HD Set n’ Forget Setting Powder. I bought it in the Rich shade, which is the deepest shade, for about 5 or 6 dollars. It comes in a small, round, sort of flat, plastic container and it has one of those things inside to sift the powder.

So how was the powder?

I like it a lot. The powder is really fine and I have been using it since I bought it and I have not broken out from it. It gives a nice matte finish and my concealer lasts longer. I haven’t actually timed it so I can’t say for sure but about 8 hrs or so which is fine for me. Some of the makeup rubs of through the day but not as much as when I am not wearing the setting powder. It doesn’t last for 16 hrs like the container says. But for the price I say its pretty good and I will continue to use it.

So if you are looking for a good setting powder give this one a try!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everybody! Its a new year and fresh beginning to accomplish new goals. There are officially 364 days left to achieve my new year’s resolutions. This year I plan to do so much. I officially finished school and will be receiving my degree in a month. yay! But now I have to figure out what to do with my life and I have time to make it what I want to be so I have made a list of resolutions and I will list it here so that hopefully it will be motivation to reach my goals. So here they are:

1) Get a new job… or atleast somewhere within the industry I want to be in

2) Lose about 10 to 15 pounds… (my resolution every single year, hoping this year will be different)

3) Learn to drive. I have had my permit for almost a year and still have not touched the steering wheel of a car.

4) Blog more. I love messing around with beauty products and I figured this blog is a way to express that and improve my writing skills so I definitely want to blog more.

I think that is pretty much it. Those are my new year’s resolutions and maybe some of you have the same ones. I would love to hear about anyone’s goals for the year so feel free to share!

Product Review! Sultra Seductress

https://i0.wp.com/sultra.com/img/irons/seductress-full-new.jpg

It is time to dust off my blog. I have finally got something worth reviewing and obviously from the blog title it is the Sultra Seductress. It is a flat iron that does curls and waves as well as straightening. I actually bought it like a week ago and I have to say I am in LOVE with this thing. I straighten my hair all the time and my old flat iron lasted me like 6 years (that’s a really long time) and it took me on average about a hour and a half to get it perfectly straight and it would still look dry.

I bought the Seductress, which its a bit pricey, for $210 at Sephora.com. I had been looking at it for months and reading reviews. It has this Japanese Kyocera technology which uses infrared rays or something and like a whole bunch of other cool features you can check out at Sephora or even Sultra.com. Well, I used this product and my hair texture became like so soft and smooth… it was amazing! My hair is like super straight and shiny and the best part it was faster! I did my hair in 45 min compared to 1 hr and 30 min.

Anyways I really love it and if any of you are looking for a great straightening iron definitely check this out.

Review! Sue Devitt Triple C-weed Whipped Foundation

It seems that foundation is one of the hardest things to shop for. In the past I have bought a few drugstore brands and I have had a hard time finding the right color because you can’t test before you buy. So I finally had given up and a few months ago I went to Macy’s so that one of the ladies at the cosmetic counters could help me. Little did I know that everyone worked for different counters and would only show me the products at their counter (which was very frustrating, especially since I don’t know that much when it comes to different brands and it is REALLY expensive). Luckily for me I found a girl who actually did what I wanted and tried a variety of brands on me. I wanted something that could be used on sensitive skin because I am afraid of breaking out so she showed me Sue Devitt Triple C-weed Whipped Foundation. It matched my skin perfectly and it did not feel heavy or like it was clogging my pores or something. I paid about $40 for a small jar and I bought it in the shade of Summer Monsoon.

On the jar it says that it contains three types of seaweed (which I should have realized before because it is called triple c-weed), vitamin C, and chamomile extract. On suedevittbeauty.com it says that it “evens out skin imperfections while locking in moisture” and it is suitable for all skin types and tones.

The packaging is nice, the only thing is I don’t really like putting my hand into the jar all the time it feels like I am contaminating the foundation. What is really important though is how well the foundation works considering that I feel like I paid a lot for a small jar.

As I mentioned before, the foundation is very light on my skin and matches perfectly. It doesn’t really hide the marks or dark areas on my face but it does sort of even it out. My skin does not feel dry or overly moisturized with the foundation, I like how it feels, almost natural. It stays pretty well except I tend to sweat a lot on my nose (I have no idea why) but, any makeup I put on my nose does not last very long at all. Overall I really like it except for the fact that its in a jar and I have to keep dipping my fingers in. I would definitely try another foundation from Sue Devitt as I was pretty pleased with this one.

Review! Simply Vera Vera Wang Cosmetics Transforming Shadow Duo

Hi everyone! I’m back. I know I have been away for a while but that is only because I was on vacation in Florida. It was fun but really exhausting. I wentdown for my cousin’s wedding and it was beautiful. I love weddings because I get to dress all fancy and stuff. For the wedding I wore a teal sort of color dress and I wanted an eyeshadow to match. I have never really worn much makeup to go out even to weddings so this was sort of a big step for me. The eyeshadow I bought was also another product from Kohl’s called Simply Vera Vera Wang transforming shadow duo, which I paid about $15 for.

Now that is kind of expensive for me especially since it is only two eyeshadows but, I wanted a good product and the color matched my dress perfectly. The shadow is number 407 and it comes with this teal-ish color and a bronze sort of color and an applicator. The package is flat, circular, and black.

The pigmentation is good and it lasted through the night.  I don’t really have anything negative to say about this product except for the price. If it costed a little less I would definitely buy more colors.

Review! American Beauty Perfecting Concealer

A few weeks ago I went to Kohl’s looking for clothing because I am getting ready for vacation and of course I couldn’t resist walking to their small makeup counters. I was just swatching different products when I came across American Beauty Perfecting Concealer. When I swatched it the color matched perfectly so I bought it for about $12, which was a pretty reasonable price.

It comes in a little plastic tube, the packaging isn’t fancy which doesn’t really matter to me but it is easy to open and close which I think is important in packaging.

So as soon as I got home I was excited to try it out on my face. It covered the dark marks that were on my face and it also helped a little with the darkness under my eyes but I wasn’t completely satisfied with it as an under eye concealer. The concealer is light and it blends pretty easily. Like I mentioned before, the color matched my skin perfectly and it looked completely natural. I can’t really say how long the product lasts on my face because I tend to touch my face a lot through out the day (which is a habit I hope to stop) but for my use as a beginner I think it is a good deal for the price. I would recommend this product as a concealer for dark spots but as an under eye concealer I am not so sure.

Hair Care: Boar Bristle Brushes

Flat hairbrush

Flat hairbrush (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Well I am back to post again 🙂 Today I wanted to talk about hair because I think it is the one thing that I obsess over. My hair always has to be perfect or atleast close to it before I go out or else I just don’t feel good. I have really thick and somewhat wavy-ish curly hair that gets really frizzy and huge so I buy tons of hair products to tame it. Also for a while I have had this really annoying pain right by the crown of my head. I kept looking for solutions for it and something I stumbled upon while on my quest for relief was boar bristle brushes.

These brushes are really great. I own two of them a round one and small paddle brush. I bought them at Duane Reade a while ago so I don’t really remember the price. My hair was a bit rough and dry since I straighten my hair a lot, but after a little while of using the brush everyday my hair became softer and even shinier. When using it though, make sure to brush the ends first and then work your way up to the scalp.

Boar bristle brushes are good for your hair because they spread the natural oils from your scalp throughout your hair and it helps to massage your scalp because the bristles are thick. My scalp did feel a bit better from using it and it is the brush that I use majority of the time. The boar bristles are pretty soft so I think that it can be used on all hair types, but since my hair is really thick I use a combination of boar bristles and nylon bristles and I love it. Give it a try!
